The Detroit Institute of Ophthalmology honored Stellantis Chief Design Officer Ralph Gilles with the 2023 EyesOn Design Lifetime Design Achievement Award on June 16, 2023, at the Conner Center (former Dodge Viper assembly plant). The award was presented by Tom Gale, Gilles' mentor and former Chrysler Corp. Head of Design.
At 52 years old, Gilles brings 30 years of experience with the company, having designed vehicles for Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep, and Ram brands. His notable designs include the Chrysler 300, Dodge Viper SRT, Ram 1500, and Jeep Grand Cherokee.
This marks the 36th year of the EyesOn Design Lifetime Design Achievement Award, selected by previous winners including notable automotive designers. The event supports the Detroit Institute of Ophthalmology's research for the visually impaired.
"Ralph is a respected leader within the automotive design community and his creativity and passion is reflected in his work," said Dr. Philip C. Hessburg.
The event raises awareness and provides financial support for the Detroit Institute of Ophthalmology while celebrating automotive design excellence.
